How's your new year coming? Are you keeping your resolutions? In this issue, we want to give you some ideas that you can work on, and also an app that can create beautiful art from the common photos that you take with your phone. We hope you're having a very happy new year!
Every year I like to pick a word to focus on throughout the year. This year I chose the word CLARITY. I am realizing more and more that clarity brings power. When we are clear about what we want to accomplish and how we will accomplish it – then we can go about it getting it done. What will I do to be more healthy? To improve relationships? To generate more income? Save more money?
I have wanted to provide training (in addition to Partnering) for years. But it wasn’t until we had a strategic planning meeting and got completely clear on WHAT we wanted to offer, WHO we were going to offer it to, WHEN we would do it, HOW would we market it, and WHY we wanted to do it that anything happened. Now when I talk to people I am clear in explaining that we have three divisions in our company: Public Involvement, Partnering and Training. Once we answered all the clarity questions, then we had the power (and took the risk) to pay for a training room, meet with people and start enrolling them in our courses.
Are you clear in your role as a leader? Are you clear in your intentions and plans on how to influence your team and increase engagement? This is one of the topics that has generated great discussions in our four-hour “Bridging the Gaps” course. One of the questions we ask our participants is, “What does a good supervisor do?” Here are some of the answers we got from our last class –
He or She:
"Shows up” and is really present with people
Discusses progress being made and the good things that are happening
Takes the time to talk about personal lifeAsks for your opinions and listens to your responses
Takes individual time with people
Explains to me why not all of my ideas will work. But even when they don’t, keep asking for more ideas and input
So here's my challenge for you: pick one area of your life that could benefit from clarity. I believe the real power of clarity comes not only in knowing what to do, but also in knowing what not to do. Sometimes a “not to do” list is even more important than the “to do” list.
It's a new year ... choose a word. Work on it. And please let us know how it's going!
The Prisma App
By Darryl Jacques
Would you like to transform your ordinary smartphone photos into works of art? Look no further than the amazing (and free!) Prisma app, available for both Androids and iPhones.
Part of the witchcraft of Prisma is the ease of use:
Download the app on Google Play, iTunes or prismadownload.net
Open Prisma and click on "Gallery," which will then show your photos
Select a photo and try out the different filters available at the bottom of the screen. When you find a photo/filter combo that you love, you can download it, share it to facebook, e-mail it, or text it to someone who will gape in amazement at your artistic abilities.
Below are some examples of "before" photos, and "after" with a Prisma filter applied:
